Working in the hospitality industry, especially in the luxury hotel, I often get people asking me questions such as: have you met anyone famous?

If I work for normal standard hotels or working in departments that don’t have much contact with hotel guests, I probably don’t have much chance to see those celebrities. However, I do work in a place calls itself “6 star hotel” and is the first luxury designer brand hotel, so I do get to see/ meet/ serve/ talk (maybe), the celebrities.

Most of the time I see GC local famous people, usually local business people, or local socialites. Or in big events, we can meet national famous people. On the other hand, due to our hotel is famous in its luxury, international celebrities often would like to stay with us, and so it would be the time for us to get a chance to see those people in person.

You have probably already heard people saying: celebrities look far different from the screen or photos. Yes, it’s true! However, some of them look exactly the same. The most common situation is they are slimmer/ smaller/ tinier in person. So the screen does make people look fat, unfortunately!!! The other time when I met this politic “used to be”, she is actually much taller than I saw on the TV.

Recently I met two female celebrities from the entertainment industry. Sophie Monk and Kate Hudson.

I was working in the hotel lobby bar on both occasions. Sophie Monk looked exactly the same as I see from TV, and again, thinner! I recognised her straightway. She was friendly and polite when I was serving her; although that night we were quite busy, she remained calm and patient. She was with a guy who looked like her boyfriend and seemed to be a celebrity as well. I didn’t recognise him till I read the celebrity gossip magazines and he is Joel Madden, one of the twin brothers from an American band-"Good Charlotte". From the magazines Sophie Monk and Joel are now engaged and Joel’s twin brother is going out with Nicole Richie.

They came to our lobby bar the next night and were friendly still. I wasn’t sure they stayed in the hotel or not, because GC is actually home town of Sophie Monk. .

Kate Hudson stayed in the hotel. However, I didn’t recognise her even I was talking with her. She was telling me what drink she wanted, I looked at her face and was thinking: “This lady looks so like Kate Hudson! And she even got American accent!” I did think she might be Kate Hudson but I didn’t think she was because she looked so small and tiny, and Kate Hudson looks tall on TV.

She was having drinks with a friend and they didn’t stay at the bar long, after they got their second round drink, they went back to their room. I heard Jo was saying:”She looks smaller……..”, but I didn’t pay too much attention on it.

About an hour later, Stephan from IRD walked pass me and said: “Kate Hudson is alright, aha?! I went: “wow, so that was her, Kate Hudson!”

Kate Hudson was friendly as well; we didn’t have much interaction though.
